Health staff are celebrating after being named one of the best trusts in the NHS.
Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust beat off more than 1,000 entries to be named provider trust of the year at the Health Service Journal (HSJ) award.
The trust was recognised for its drive to continuously improve the quality of care it delivers to patients in hospitals and in the community and its commitment to listening to, and acting on, the feedback of patients and relatives.
HSJ judges said Northumbria has “excelled in applying the science of improvement” and “measure what they care about and use the data to produce extraordinary results”.
Jim Mackey, trust chief executive, said: “To win this award and be named among the best in the NHS is absolutely fantastic and a great honour for everyone involved with our organisation.
“As a trust, we pride ourselves in providing the highest quality of care and listening to our patients, staff, governors and stakeholders so we can continuously improve.
“It is excellent that this award has been announced when we have been heralded as a national leader for patient experience – our staff should be rightfully proud of our achievements.”
