Newbiggin’s Blessing of the Lifeboat service this Sunday signals the countdown to Lifeboat Day the following weekend.

The Blessing will take place in the station from 3pm, with the service undertaken by the local church groups.

It is an established tradition in the lifeboat calendar. Refreshments will be served afterwards.

Newbiggin Lifeboat Day, on Sunday, July 22, starts at 1.30pm. There will be a variety of stalls and attractions in and around the lifeboat station, as well as displays and demonstrations undertaken by the lifeboat subject to operational demands throughout the afternoon.

In the boatpark area, there will be a variety of stalls – including souvenirs, raffles, books and gifts – and entertainment for the younger ones.

For those wishing to enjoy a selection of home-made cakes and scones, the boathouse will be serving them along with hot and cold drinks.

Throughout the afternoon, local band Percy and the Piglets will be performing live on the adjacent sea front, with further entertainment from local steel band Steel by the Sea.
