Views are sought on new report

The views of fishermen and others concerned with the quality of the marine environment from the Tweed to the Tyne are being sought.

The Northumberland Inshore Fisheries & Conservation Authority (NIFCA) is looking for views on the draft Environmental Report – part of NIFCA’s continuing development of its Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA), which is now available for consultation.

NIFCA’s chief executive officer Mike Hardy, said they were looking for views to help shape the report.

“NIFCA’s aim is to ensure sustainable exploitation of sea fisheries resources, balancing social and economic benefits with the need to protect the marine environment,” he said.

“This draft Environmental Report is a major step in helping us achieve that aim.

“We would now like to receive the views of everyone associated with the marine environment to ensure we continue to achieve the right balance between exploitation and conservation.”

Members of the public have until Friday, September 29, to submit their views.

A copy of the draft report can be seen on NIFCA’s website at or a paper copy can be given on request from 8 Ennerdale Road, Blyth.
