One of the areas inside MelanieÂ’'s Tea Room.

It will serve cream teas and afternoon and high tea that must be booked at least 24 hours in advance.

Melanie Martin was born in Ashington and brought up in Stakeford. She moved away from the area when she was 21, but has now moved back to the area with her husband Paul to start a new chapter in their lives.

MelanieÂ’'s Tea Room will open later today.

They have aimed for a vintage feel and furnished the tea room at 51 Front Street with antique furniture, some of which they have upcycled themselves. Refreshments available include Ringtons tea and coffee, Morwick Dairy ice cream, home-made scones and cakes, waffles, milkshakes and sandwiches.

Melanie said she and Paul are ‘providing a touch of nostalgia mixed with shabby chic and some excellent customer service, along with our family ideals, in a classy environment’.
