Volunteers are in the running for top awards

Two volunteers from the county have been shortlisted for national awards that recognise the efforts of sport’s foremeost volunteers.

Richard Robinson and Jeff Ball, who volunteer at Cramlington Rockets, will attend a ceremony at Super League Grand Final this Saturday.

U13s head coach, Richard Robinson has been nominated for Children’s Coach of the Year after overseeing an explosion of interest in the U13s that necessitated the creation of two teams at that age groups.

And club chairman Jeff Ball is up for the Volunteer of the Year for his role in promoting the club and the sport, particularly around Magic Weekend and the campaign surrounding the Aviva Community Fund grant.

Jeff said: “It is a tremendous honour to be shortlisted and for me a reflection of the hard work everyone at the club has put in.

“This year was always going to be a big year for rugby league in the north east and what we have achieved in the last twelve months is staggering. I am really looking forward to the day and it is nice to have Rich there too for company.”

The ceremony will be held on Saturday, October 10, with all shortlisted nominees invited to be guests of honour at the Super League Grand Final.
