Walkers do charity hike

Two women have taken on a gruelling 80-mile walk to raise money for a blood cancer charity.

Nicola Thorn, 36, and Alison Davies, 41, both of Seaton Sluice, walked 84 miles from Bowness-on-Solway to Segedunum in Wallsend as part of a Coast to Coast challenge, which raised £2,500 for Leukaemia Care.

And a raffle held at the Astley Arms in Seaton Sluice raised £300 towards the total.

The pair were supported along the way by their friend Chris Jarvie, who was diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukaemia in 2006.

Chris, 57, also of Seaton Sluice, said: “I think it is an absolutely marvellous achievement.

“They should be very proud of themselves.

“I am delighted with how much they have raised for the charity.

“It will go a long, long way to help people with leukaemia.”
