Warning for pet owners using shampoo shamshampoo

Pet owners are being urged to rinse their animals thoroughly after using tea tree shampoos after fears the product could cause illness.

Several animals, including cats, dogs and a parrot, have been treated at Northumberland vets Robson & Prescott for neurological problems over the last two months at its Whorral Bank practice in Morpeth.

The animals displayed behaviour including poor co-ordination, weakness, muscle tremors and depression, while two of the dogs were vomiting.

All had recently been been treated with either shampoo or insecticidal spot-ons containing tea tree oil or melaleuca oil.
