Having read that Northumberland County Council wants to implement charges on the disposal of certain waste materials, I wonder if it has thought this through.
We read quite often that fly-tipping is on the increase. I feel these new charges will make this problem worse as we all are tightening our belts during this long recession.
As residents of this county we already pay our council tax to cover things such as removal of our waste.
We are all responsible in our duty to take our rubbish to these recycling centres. It is then up to them to be cost effective. By levying a charge the council has taken the easy option and charged us twice for the service.
More attention needs to be given to people who bring their business waste to the centre and pass themselves off as residents so they do not have to pay for the service.
