A controlled explosion has been carried out tonight on a suspect package found in Northumberland.
Police were called to Cowpen Road, Blyth, at 6.30pm today (Tuesday) after a suspicious package was found.
Officers attended and cordoned off the area as a precaution while enquiries were carried out to establish what the package was and whether it posed any cause for concern.
Explosives Ordnance Disposal attended and as a precaution a controlled explosion was carried out to allow it to be examined.
A section of Cowpen Road, near to Blyth Service Station, was closed for a short time to allow the incident to be dealt with.
The road has now been reopened.
