The eight-year-old Central Primary School pupil bought the rare Frankinose – a one-in-900 chance – at the school. It was one nose per pupil and they came in boxes, so he did not know his was a Frankinose until he opened the box.

Last Friday, pupils came to the school dressed in red and in order to be allowed to do so, they made a donation to the Comic Relief charity.

Staff spoke to the children about what Red Nose Day stands for and the importance of fund-raising during assembly.

In addition, a spin-a-thon at Ashington Leisure Centre took place for parents on the Tuesday and staff after school on the Friday to add to the school’s total.

Both were held in a theatre-style room that provides scenery on a big screen for those cycling on state-of-the-art exercise bikes. The school would like to thank Ashington Leisure Centre for letting the groups use the facility.

Also on Friday, some of the residents and staff at Chester Court Care Home in Bedlington entertained shoppers in the town’s Morrisons branch by singing various songs to celebrate Red Nose Day.
