A welcome gift for Royal British Legion
Volunteers have provided a welcome gift in time for Remembrance Day.
Northumbrian Water’s local workforced have created a car park to the rear of the Royal British Legion’s headquarters on North Seaton Road, in Ashington.
The workforce has transformed derelict land so members can safely park close to the building.
John Simpson, of the Ashington Branch, said: “We really appreciate the efforts of Northumbrian Water staff in creating the car park.
“Many of our members are elderly and disabled so being able to park close to the building on a safe, level surface is really important to us.
“The team also went the extra mile in providing a fence and installing signage.”
Steve Thompson, Network Services Area Manager for Northumbrian Water, added: “Many of our volunteers on this project are from the Ashington area and we are pleased to support the work of the Royal British Legion in the run up to Remembrance Sunday.”
There will be a temporary change in the arrangements for Remembrance Sunday in Ashington because of the Station Road Regeneration Scheme in the town centre.
The Parade this year will begin on Institute Road at 10.30am, travelling down West Station Road to the Ashington Memorial Garden on Kenilworth Road. Everyone is warmly invited to attend.
Ashington Town Council is also working closely with the Ashington Branch of the RBL for further improvements to the HQ on North Seaton Road.
