Welcome session for day service
A new unique day service in Northumberland for adults with additional needs is inviting residents to find out about what it does later this month.
The free welcome session with attractions and refreshments at The Susan Kennedy Centre in Ashington, where it will operate from, will take place on Saturday, June 25.
Brightside Adult Services will provide a varied programme of activities, both in the centre and out in the community – its focus is on people aged between 18 and 35.
Makaton and visual prompts will be used during each session to aid communication and maximise involvement and choice.
The service will be delivered by experienced and highly trained staff, including qualified social worker and psychotherapist Amy-Jane Farrar and Cheryl Wade, a local authority inclusion consultant who is also a regional Makaton teacher.
Mrs Farrar said: “We have identified a gap in provision for high quality care for groups of adults who are very active and require a varied, structured and busy programme of activities, with an educational focus.
“We are very passionate about delivering this service and there is already a lot of interest in what we are doing from organisations, including the NHS.”
Ian Lavery MP will carry out the opening of the service at the session, which will run from 1.30pm to 4.30pm.
