Wheels turning for family biking
A Blyth family is gearing up to fitness by joining a local cycling club.
The Storrar family started cycling after the Tour of Britain with the help of club Northumbrian Vikings.
Mum Sarah said: “We already had bikes, but we never used them much really. Since taking part in the club sessions we’ve got the cycling bug and we’re planning on doing a lot more family rides.”
Sarah noticed the increase in confidence from her daughter Evie.
She said: “As a family we’ve all loved it and it’s got us together on our bikes.
“Our daughter Evie has really enjoyed the club’s activities. She had just made the transition to cycling without her stabilisers and through cycle speedway she’s come on so much.”
The Northumbrian Vikings runs at Cramlington Sporting Club on a purpose-built outdoor track.
Under 16 beginners’ sessions are held every Friday, at 6.30pm, and taster sessions are on Tuesdays, at 6.30pm, and Sundays, at 12.30pm.
Northumbria Vikings Cycle Speedway coach Richie Smith said: “We’re really pleased that the Storrar family are enjoying the sessions.
“Friday bike night is a great introduction to cycling on our traffic-free track.
“We’ve made it as easy as possible, you don’t even need a bike, just rock up and ride.
“We welcome riders of all abilities.”
The club has its own bikes that can be used.
