A living wall created by youngsters in south east Northumberland has scooped a national award.
The Cheviots site in Ashington has won a national competition thanks to pupils from Central First School, Bernicia and Gentoo Construction.
An ‘Incredible Edible’ living wall was created on the site of the former Ashington hospital, by Central First School pupils using recycled materials.
And the design, enefited from some environmental and plant workshops from Bernicia and Gentoo staff, won the Ivor Goodsite hoardings competition.
Andrea Malcolm from Bernicia said: “It has been an excellent project to be involved in and to win the competition is fantastic.”
