A Cramlington teenager has spoken of his delight at landing his ‘perfect job’ at a family-owned bakers.

Joseph McFarlane, a recent graduate from the Prince’s Trust Team Programme, has been employed by Glenton’s Bakery.

Delivered from the Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service (NFRS) headquarters in West Hartford, the 12-week programme is aimed at 16-to-25-year-olds who are currently not in employment, education or training.

It is an opportunity for these young people to develop a range of new skills, meet new people and achieve a nationally recognised qualification.

Joseph, 19, said: “Twelve weeks ago, I was unemployed and low on confidence.

“Thanks to the staff from NFRS who deliver the Prince’s Trust Team Programme and Glenton’s Bakery, I now have the perfect job. I feel so proud.”

NFRS Chief Fire Officer Paul Hedley said: “I am really proud of all our participants in The Prince’s Trust Team Programme.

“I have the fantastic opportunity to see these young people transform and grow, build their confidence and develop their skills.

“I would like to extend my congratulations to Joseph from our most recent cohort on his employment at Glenton’s Bakery, one of our longest-serving programme partners.

“His confidence has grown throughout this process and it’s fantastic that Glenton’s were so impressed with Joseph during his work experience there that they offered him a job.

“I’d also like to thank all of our delivery staff and partners as part of the Prince’s Trust Team Programme. It is through their hard work and dedication that we are able to make a difference to the lives of young people from our area.”
