A SATURDAY drop-in facility for youngsters is being piloted in Choppington after the town’s community association secured a £1,000 grant.
The service will run on a trial-basis for three months with the help of the funding from Northumberland County Council’s south east area committee community chest fund.
The sessions have been taking place at The Gatehouse in Scotland Gate for young people aged between ten and 13 and living in the Choppington area.
The grant will be used to cover room hire, purchase sundries – including arts and crafts materials – and to organise a monthly outdoor activity.
Community association chairperson Helen Nicholson said: “The drop-in is proving popular with young children regularly turning up to socialise and take part in activities while their parents are secure in the knowledge that their children are safe and well supervised.”
