Children have been given a special Christmas treat with the chance to share their stories with counterparts elsewhere in Europe.

Language Learners North East (LLNE), working in partnership with Northburn Primary School in Cramlington, has embarked on a year-long penpal programme where children from two schools will exchange a series of letters over the academic year.

Northburn has been twinned with a school in Bart, Besançon, in eastern France, and 30 Year 6 pupils have just received their first letter from their new penpals.

Emma Taylor, from LLNE, said: “The letters from France are fantastic, the French school even prepared a guess who game for the children to play.”

“We have just had their Christmas lesson where they learnt all about Christmas traditions in France, the children recorded a special video message that we have emailed to the twin school in Bart, they sang Vive le Vent – the French version of Jingle Bells and sampled some French Christmas Cake.
