Youngsters help police to keep the peace

YOUNGSTERS in Ashington have been working with neighbourhood police officers in a bid to prevent anti-social behaviour,

A forum held at the YMCA in the town’s North View saw 25 youths turn out to put ideas forward for helping cut disorder among their peers.

The group, a mixture of youngsters aged between 12 and 17, discussed different ideas for initiatives that could be run in the town to enable young people to engage more with the police and their community, while at the same time thus reducing anti-social behaviour.

The various programmes and ideas suggested are now being looked into by police.

The meeting proved such a success that plans are already in hand to hold a second one on Thursday, February 17, again at the YMCA.

The meeting will start at 5pm, and refreshments will be served.
