The whole idea of moving County Hall to Ashington seems a political decision and a total waste of funds.
Surely a 30-year-old building can be modernised to the standard the council wants without having to spend too much money, and with building projects such as this new headquarters scheme, the costs will keep going up.
I have no problem with the regeneration of Ashington, but it should be led by Ashington Town Council and its business community. This building could end up being counter-productive as it will make the traffic congestion in Ashington even worse.
To me, the councillors who abstained in the budget vote effectively voted ‘yes’ to the move. Can I abstain from paying council tax?
