CRUELTY: Is dog ban sufficient?

editorial image

The recent report of the treatment of two defenceless dogs at Ashington made grim reading (News Post Leader, September 21).

It is difficult for many of us to comprehend fully such behaviour.

The perpetrator was brought to justice and dealt with.

But is a five-year ban from keeping animals adequate in such a case as this, or any others like it?

It might be time to consider a much longer ban for such acts of inhumanity.

Or is this just another example of our justice system being sadly out of date?
