MEMORIALS: Help add the lost names

editorial image

I am co-ordinating the missing names that need to be placed on the three war memorials at Blyth, Cowpen and Newsham.

Since the First World War, there have been a number of missing names, for whatever reason, which should have been placed on the memorials.

We are in the process of having the memorials renovated, the first being Cowpen, which should have the rifle replaced before Remembrance Day.

The soldier is also being replaced due to the deterioration of the lower part. The lettering and the rest of the memorial will be made good during the renovations.

In order that the missing names of the service personnel can be added, we need their details as soon as possible.

If you can let me have their names, ranks, service numbers, regiment and date of death, I shall check their details for inclusion on the war memorials.

Names could be from any of the conflicts from the First World War onwards, including those who died in service, not necessarily on active service, from all three services – Navy, Army and Royal Air Force.

Please send details to Major (Rtd) Derek W Fairbairn, President Elswick (Blyth) All Arms Association, 103 Middleton Street, Blyth, Northumberland, NE24 2LX.
