On Friday, September 22, I attend the harvest festival supper at St Andrew’s and St Mark’s Church in Newbiggin by the Sea, in the church hall.
It started at 7pm and was fully attended.
We had soup provided by Cosco, followed by apple pie and ice-cream, tea and biscuits, then the church choir entertained us.
Lynne Dixon gave us a song from opera; she was magnificent. The night ended with the church choir singing to us again.
On Sunday morning at the church service, we were introduced to our new minister Marie Attwood, who gave communion. It was the best service I have ever witnessed.
She reminded me of my father-in-law, a local preacher at the Central Hall in Ashington. He was a devoted follower of Billy Graham, the famous Methodist preacher. Our minister had the same effect on Sunday’s congregation.
Every one of us remarked on the way she conducted the service. She was full of knowledge and personality, and you could hear every word she spoke.
This was a weekend we will never forget.
