I write in reply to the letter from Lesley Hunter regarding the Tour of Britain cycle race mural on the wall of the toilet block at Broadway, Blyth, (News Post Leader, May 25).
Blyth Town Council has always been aware of how many residents admire the cycle mural and it will be replaced.
It’s been a long process, but we had to wait until the new changing rooms were built, together with the two public toilets.
The old toilet block had to be demolished, but this was delayed due to asbestos being found.
We considered trying to retain the wall, but it was decided it was better to demolish the old block, including the plumbing, electricity and glass windows.
We are in the process of designing a new feature on which to re-create a cycle mural.
The cycle race will be held in Blyth again on September 4.
You will have noticed the four new colourful Welcome to Blyth signs at the entrances to Blyth. We are always considering features for the gateways to Blyth and would welcome any ideas.
Also look out for our Blue Plaques scheme and the formal and wild flower beds, details on our website.

Mayor of Blyth Town Council
