We are very sad to hear of the demise of Michael Kirkup, he lit up people’s lives with his raconteur storytelling.
He especially bonded with local people.
His magazine, Close The Coal House Door, bonded pitmatic folk of south east Northumberland at the same time as telling it as it really was.
He had that talent.
He did not suffer fools gladly and stuck to his principles, a man for all seasons.
He represented the public as a local Newbiggin town councillor, history teacher, etc.
And he was also a good husband and father of his three boys.
Yes Mike, we are the worse off without you.
Sincere commiserations to his family.
