Youth throwing objects from roof at police

Police are dealing with an ongoing incident in Blyth.

Reports have come through of a youth throwing missiles at police officers.

Police have closed Newcastle Road, in Newsham, Blyth, to deal with the incident, which started around 1.40pm today (Thursday).

One witness said: “There is a youth on the roof throwing slates and other objects down onto the road.”

A police spokesperson said: “At around 1.40pm police were called to reports of a man on the roof of a garage at a residential property in Newcastle Road, Blyth.

“Officers attended and have closed the road in both directions while they deal with the incident.

“Specialist negotiators remain at the scene to communicate with the man.”
