A first defeat of the season

ASHINGTON seconds suffered their first defeat of the season on Saturday when they went down by 136 runs against Shotley Bridge at The Spa – but the Colliers still remain at the top of the league by 16 points.

Shaun Wood smashed 84 with other knocks from David Golightly (48) and Joe Gibson (33) as the home side racked up 235, with Adam Nichol taking 4-54 from 12 overs.

In reply, James Lovatt hit a top scoring 34 but the Wansbeck side were dismissed for 99 in 29.5 overs with David Bolton taking three late wickets to end with figures of three for two.
