Ashington Cricket Club is looking to start girls’ and women’s cricket teams through a series of indoor sessions at Bothal Middle School every Tuesday night from September 30 for ten weeks.

The sessions are open to girls aged nine and over and to all abilities, and the club’s fully qualified coaches will introduce cricket in a fun and safe environment.

Club vice-chairman Michael Thewlis said: “ We have some girls come down to the club’s junior training but we need to get more girls involved at the club.

“Even if you have never played before or thought that cricket wasn’t for you, come down with your friends and have a try.

“Parents can stay and watch and mums are welcome to get involved too.

“The first two sessions are free – so even if you come down and don’t like it you’ve lost nothing.”

The club will provide equipment and all the girls need to wear are tracksuits, or short and t-shirts, and trainers.

The session for nine to 13-year-olds is from 5pm to 6pm, while for girls aged 14 and over, the session is from 6pm to 7pm.
