ASHINGTON Cricket Club’s first XI take on defending champions Swalwell at Langwell Crescent on Saturday knowing that defeat will see them relegated to the A2 division.
The Colliers go into the final two matches of the season 31 points adrift of Chopwell after suffering their 12th reverse of the campaign at Sacriston at the weekend.
Michael Thewlis’s side were bowled out for 113 with Daniel Grant top scoring with 18.
Several of the Ashington players made a start but failed to push on and make a score as Kendal Ballard (3-16) and Ryan Moralee (3-29) shared six of the ten wickets to go down.
Former Durham player Melvyn Betts then hit 36 with 29 from Claughan and an unbeaten 25 from Harry Hubber to take Sacriston to victory by eight wickets.
The result, coupled with Swalwell only picking up nine points from their match at home to Chopwell, which was eventually rained off, saw Sacriston go to the top of the table by eight points.

n Meanwhile the second team are 25 points behind leaders Sacristin after the game between the two sides was abandoned on Saturday after Ashington were bowled out for 73.
Only Dale Ross (20) and Michael Levison (15) reached double figures as the rain came to their rescue at the tea interval.
