Ashington seconds tasted defeat for the first time this season over fellow title competitors Shotley Bridge in a relatively close game.
Winning the toss and batting first, Ashington made a decent start with Doug and Matthew Potts putting on 50 before skipper Doug Potts was caught for 19.
Wickets then fell at regular intervals and runs were hard to come by, Scott Dunn making 32 and Matthew Potts 33 as the hosts were dismissed for 146 within 43 overs.
The visitors then got off to a good start but Ashington dragged themselves back into it through spells from Michael and Martin Thewlis as well as Ian Sharkey in the middle overs.
Opener Phil Mellons batted through for 51 not out in a determined knock and the Durham outfit eventually got over the line with only two overs to spare.
On another day it could have been a different story as Ashington put down nine catches, but still put up a strong fight in the end.
