Ashington seconds retain healthy lead

Table topping Ashington seconds have a 26 points lead at the head of the B1 Division with six games remaining after a 94 runs victory over Annfield Plain seconds at Langwell Crescent on Saturday.

Batting first, the feature of the home innings was a third wicket stand of 140 between Josh Robinson (69) and Ian Sharkey (65) as Ashington totalled 212-8.

Daniel Keenan top scored with 46 for the Plain, who were 89-2 at one stage before collapsing to 118 all out.

For the hosts, wickets were shared between Martin Thewlis (2-14), George Collins (2-25) and one each for Matthew Crawford, Matthew Potts, Alex Storey and Sharkey.

On Saturday, Ashington seconds are away to Backworth.
