Ashington batsman Jack McCarthy made 30 not out in their 9 wicket win at Swalwell.

Ashington CC 2nds maintained their unbeaten 2015 campaign with another dominant victory, this time over fourth-placed Swalwell who had five regulars missing.

Swalwell won the toss and elected to bat, and they made a decent start with Neaven and Hodgson putting on 39 before Matthew Potts dismissed the former with a good catch by Rory Smith.

From then on Swalwell struggled to gain any real momentum and were pegged back by Ashington’s bowlers before being dismissed for 75 in the 39th over.

Michael Thewlis and Matthew Potts were the stand-out men with four wickets each.

In reply, Swalwell got the early wicket of Doug Potts, who was stumped for five off the bowling of young spinner Hodgson.

Jack McCarthy then came to the crease and he and Matthew Potts scored freely, with Ashington hitting the winning runs from inside 16 overs.

McCarthy finished on 30 not out while Matthew Potts was unbeaten on 29.
