Ashington seconds warm-up for Tynedale clash with win

Go North East B1 division league leaders Ashington seconds come face to face with Tynedale – their nearest rivals – this weekend in what promises to be a titanic showdown at Hexham.

The Colliers head the division by a nine points margin from their long time adversaries after coming out on top on Saturday at Lumley Gardens against Lintz – another club pushing near the top.

After a shaky start where they lost Michael Levison and Scott Dunn cheaply, the Wansbeck side recovered with excellent knocks from Adam Nichol (66) and Ian Sharkey (57), which enabled them to finish on 200-7 after their 45 overs.

Vice-captain Graham Whitworth them took 3-37 with Michael Thewlis (2-19) and Trevor Christie (2-35) chipping in with vital wickets as the home side finished 40 runs short of their target.
