Blyth romp to nine-wicket win

Blyth secured a nine-wicket win as they dominated Gems/Chopwell after a delayed start due to the late preparation of a wicket.

Blyth skipper Mark Lawrence used a rule where Gems defaulted on the starting time therefore he had the choice to bat or bowl so selected the latter.

Steve Silva and Dent opened the bowling for Blyth and it was not long before wickets were falling.

Andy Kemp ran out H Mohammad for one before Dent bowled F Ahmed for four.

A Ahmed came to the wicket but fared no better when Silva bowled him for one.

O Hussain and B Krishnan steadied the innings before Lawrence brought himself on to replace Silva.

Krishnan finally fell for 26 when Dent had him caught by Kirkup.

Surjit Singh replaced Dent and, playing his first game of the season, he removed O Hussain for 25, caught by Smith, then caught and bowled Z Shadid for 37.

Keeper Quinn, with a smart stumping, sent Alam back for one, giving Singh his third wicket.

Zeshan joined Mukhtar at the wicket but Quinn caught Mukhtar off Singh without scoring. Zeshan came and went when Lawrence had him caught by Dent without scoring, and finally Z Ahmed went when Lawrence trapped him lbw without scoring.

Gems lost their last four wickets for one run.

Blyth’s bowling figures were S Silva 1-25, D Dent 2-42, M Lawrence 2-24 and S Singh 4-13 from 3.1 overs.

Blyth openers Dent and Purma produced a stand of 76 as they chased down 106 for victory.

Z Ahmed came on and he finally broke the partnership when he had Purma caught by Mukhtar for 20.
