Blyth seconds put up their best batting performance of the season only to lose in the last over against Cramlington.

They gained full batting points for the first time this season when scoring 166-6.

The total was mainly due to Darren Carr who scored 53 and skipper on the day Ryan Kirkup with 48 not out.

Young Bradley Purvis added an excellent 22 sand Gill was 13 not out at the end while A Langley and S Parker took two wickets each.

Cramlington’s reply was well on track after losing an early wicket.

J Parker and Langley put together a half-century partnership before young keeper Ben Blackett took a fine catch to dismiss Parker for 23.

Wilkinson smashed 52, with 40 coming in boundaries.

However, things could have been different as Wilkinson was dropped when he was 30.

Blyth got themselves back into the game with three quick wickets and still had a chance of gaining a victory before it went down to the final over when Cuthbertson hit the winning runs. He remained 15 not out and Foulds was unbeaten on nine.

Pick of the Blyth bowling was J Stewart 3-36 from ten overs. Clark chipped in with 2-22.

Next weekend the second XI travel to take on Whitley Bay seconds who are near the top. Wickets are pitched at 1.30pm.
