BLYTH seconds lost by 25 runs against Monkseaton on Saturday.
The visitors batting first had Andy Simms in no mood to hang around. Along with Benns he put together a 50 partnership before Benns went for 13.
Simms and new batsman Clarke continued to hit boundaries at will.
Blyth were looking at chasing down a score well over 200.
Simms eventually went when Gill bowled him for 74.
Carrigan got two cheap wickets to peg the score back.
Clarke and Coultass pushed the score along and closed on 183-4 with Clarke 62 not out and Coultass 21 not out.
Blyth’s bowling figures were Thompson 1-28, O’Connor 0-26, Purvis 0-33, Carrigan 2-41 and Gill 1-50.
Blyth’s innings got of to a slow start and the they lost two wickets in consecutive balls.
Father and son Stewart pairing added some useful runs before the senior member went for one to many and was out for 16.
Carrigan and James Stewart added 36 before the former went for 19. Stewart was out for a fine 39 before Gill and Thompson added 69 for the sixth wicket when the innings closed just 25 runs short. Gill ended 43 not out and Thompson 20 not out.
