Ashington CFC’s Brian Shotton has been presented with a Citizens’ Award from Ashington Town Council.
Brian, 30, said: “I’m a low key individual and this award has come out of the blue. I’m proud that someone has nominated me and I thank everyone for their support.”
The Mayor of Ashington, Coun Lawrence Henderson, said: “Brian has received his award for services to the community, in particular to Ashington CFC where he has already done a tremendous amount of work, and continues to do so - in a voluntary capacity.”
Club chairman Ian Lavery said: “Brian was nominated by the Supporters Club for his outstanding commitment to Ashington Community Football Club and I think it was a great idea. Brian warrants this award , which is the first time an award like this has been given to any member of the community.
“I would also like to say that Brian’s wife Nicola has played a great role in assisting this club and ensuring that it has moved forward in the way it has and although Brian has picked up the accolade, which is fantastic, Nicola has been by his side in fighting the good cause as well. They have been absolutely outstanding and I hope they will be with us for many, many years to come and I know they share my vision for the future of this wonderful club.”
