Nominations are now open for the 2015 North East Disability Sports Awards.

Past winners include Cramlington Paralympian Stephen Miller, who was chosen to receive an MBE from the Queen in the New Year Honours.

Miller is also an ambassador for Northumberland Sport and is once again supporting the awards through his community interest company, SMILE Through Sport.

Miller said: ”There are some extremely talented sports people in the north east, and some exceptional clubs, coaches and volunteers who are dedicated to developing opportunities for disabled people to take part in sport.

“They do fantastic work and I hope a lot of people take the opportunity to nominate them to give them the recognition they deserve.”

The awards, which are now in their ninth year, celebrate the achievements and contributions north east athletes, coaches, clubs and schools have made to disability sport across the region in 2015.

The award categories are male and female personality, young male and young female achiever, team and coach of the year, in addition to awards for service to sport, participant, schools and clubs.

The 2014 awards saw over 100 individuals and clubs nominated for eight awards. Two new categories have been added this year making 2015 our biggest to date.

To nominate, fill out the online form at www.nedsa.co.uk or contact Northumberland Sport on (01670) 623515 to request a hard copy form.

The closing date for nominations is Sunday, January 31.

Nathan Rogerson, executive director of Northumberland Sport, said: “The awards are a fantastic way to celebrate the successes of our region’s sporting stars.

“We are looking forward to hearing about some very talented sports people and lots of activity being provided in our community sports clubs.

“It’s great to have the opportunity to recognise and celebrate their achievements.”

The awards are being organised by the regional County Sports Partnerships, in association with sponsors including D&P Trophies, Future Sport, House of Type, Metro Rod North East, SMILE Through Sport and Transforming Culture.

The awards ceremony will be held at The Dolphin Centre in Darlington on Thursday, April 14.
