Ashington seconds continue to lead the way

Ashington seconds continue to lead the B1 division after claiming another maximum points haul, this time at Lanchester on Saturday.

In a match reduced to 30 overs per side following heavy rain, the home side, 60-3 at one stage, were dismissed for 93 as youngsters Alex Storey and Matty Potts ripped through the order.

Potts finished with 5-24 off seven overs and Storey 3-7 off 3.3 overs.

In reply, Michael Thewlis continued his rich vein of form with an unbeaten 25 as the Colliers reached their target in the 23rd over.

Meanwhile Ashington seconds will meet old adversaries Tynedale at Langwell Crescent on Wednesday, July 15, in the semi-final of the B1 division cup, which has a 6pm start.

The Wansbeck side booked their place after a 28-run victory over Percy Main last week.

Scores: Ashington: 121-4 (Doug Potts 55, Josh Robinson 22, Matty Potts 20), Percy Main: 93-6 (Paddy Rathbone 46).

On Saturday, Ashington seconds are at home to Alnmouth & Lesbury.
