Ashington seconds stretched their winning run in the league to 11 games after a dominant display against visitors Annfield Plain, who were second from bottom going into Saturday’s game.
After winning the toss and batting first, Ashington had 78 on the board with the loss of both openers, Doug and Matthew Potts.
Fifteen year-old McCarthy then fell one short of his first second team half century, but Josh Robinson and Jonny Storey continued the flow of runs, Robinson ending with a career best 83 not out and Storey on 41 as they finished on 267-5.
In reply, Annfield Plain lost a wicket with the first ball to Matthew Collins, and they never really got going as they were dismissed for 81 in the 25th over.
Collins, A Storey and M Potts all ended with three wickets each with opener Owen Sheild making a respectable 45.
