Double tops for Ashington Rugby sides in cricket league
Bedlington 1sts picked up their second win oif the season in the Northumberland & Tyneside Cricket League Division 2 when they beat Bates Cottages 1sts by six wickets on Saturday.
The victory keeps them in a mid-table position after five weeks of league action.
Bates batted first and a knock of 82 from Ross Symington saw the home side post 171-7 in their 45 overs. But Co nnor Leason also hit 82 for Bedlington with darren Leason on 47 and this helped the visitors reach their target at 173-4 in 30 overs.
In Division 3, Ashington Rugby 1sts are joint top with Berwick 1sts after their 39-run win over Blyth 1sts at home.
Lewis Tanney hit 52 as Ashington opened with 164-8. Blyth were 125 all out in reply with Nikhil Bharti top scoring on 31, Dean Greaves taking three wickets for the home side.
Cramlington 1sts had a big 111 run home win over Whitley Bay 1sts. Matthew Dennis hit 68 and Billy Pulman 51 as Cramlington put on a big score of 247 all out, Hugh Thompson taking four wickets for the visitors. In reply, Whitley Bay saw opener Steven Kirk lead the chart with 45, but with three wickets each for Dominic Hall and Matthew Dennis they fell well short at 136 all out.
Bomarsunde 1sts are third in Division 4 after they beat Swalwell 2nds by one wicket. Swalwell saw Chris Mawson hit 68 as they posted 195-9 with Chris Blackwood and Alex Breeze each taking three wickets. Adam Mctaggart then hit 56 and Adam Gardner 51 as Bomar replied with 196-9, the winning runs coming off the last ball.
In Division 5 North, Ashington Rugby 2nds top the table, just one point ahead of Morpeth 2nds, after they beat Bedlington 2nds by 66 runs. Tom More hit 50 as Ashington made 127-6, Bedlington being all out for only 61 with Craig Jobson and Gary Mordey each taking three scalps.
Cramlington 2nds went down by 77 runs on their visit to Tillside 2nds. Tillside were 203-5 with Liam Hindmarsh on 48, whilst Cramlington were 126-9 at the end of their 40 overs, Brad Skirpin top scoring on 34.
In Division 6 North, Blyth 2nds (96 all out) lost by 66 runs at home to Berwick 2nds (162-6), whilst Bomarsund 2nds (61 all out) lost by 44 runs at home to Warkworth 2nds (105 all out).
