Nine wicket haul for Milburn as leaders Ashington Rugby win
Cory Milburn was the toast of Ashington Rugby CC 1sts on Saturday when he took a fantastic nine wickets in their away victory over Stocksfield in the Northumberland & Tyneside Division 3.
Ashington’s big 140 run win means they con tinue to lead the way at the top of the table. Colin Thornton was the top bat with 89 as the visitors posted 204-4 in their 45 overs, Stocksfield all out for only 64 in reply with Cory Milburn taking a fantastic 9-30.
Also in Division 3, Blyth 1sts travelled to Berwick 1sts where they went down to a 39 run defeat at the hands of their promotion-chasing opponents. Scott Middlemist was the bstar of the show for the home side. He hit an unbeaten century (104 not out) as Berwick posted 207-6 in their 40 overs, the game having been reduced because of rain at lunchtime. Middlemist then took four wickets as Blyth were dismissed for 168 in replywith Andy Clark on 65.
Cramlington 1sts had a narrow two run victory at home over Benwell & Walbottle 1sts. Cramlington, with Bill Pulman on 79, posted 177-9 in their innings, but Benwell came up just short at 175-5 with Gavin Brown on 63. Brad Skirpan took three wickets for the home side.
In Division 2, Bedlington 1sts had a 34 run away victory over Cowgate 1sts. Bedlington batted first and with opener Derek Shepherd hitting 95 (including 15 boundaries), they managed to put on 196-5 in their 45 overs. Jaswinder Singh hit 64 for Cowgate in reply, but they were all out for 162 in 35 overs with Brandon Douglas taking 4-16.
In Division 4, Bomarsund 1sts lost by 20 runs away to Clara Vale 1sts. Clara Vale were bowled out for 115 with Adam Gardner taking a fine 6-33, but they were unable to take advantage with the bat, all out for only 95 in reply.
In Division 5 North, Ashington 2nds also top their table after they were awarded maximum points when Alnwick 2nds conceded their fixture.
Cramlington 2nds won by three wickets away against Monkseaton 1sts. Anthony Lion hit 86 as Monkseaton made 158 all out, Stephen Parker and Darren Seddon both taking three wickets. Cramlington chased it down at 161-7 in 36 overs with Seddon on 47 not out and Dylan Simpson on 42.
Bedlington 2nds suffered a heavy ten wicket defeat at home to Morpeth 2nds. Bedlington were restricted to only 80 runs in their innings with Morpeth 81 without loss in reply.
In Division 6 North, Blyth 2nds went down to a narrow five run away defeat against Warkworth 2nds. The home side hit 159-6 with Blyth all out for 154 in reply, Harry Clark making 63.
Bomarsund 2nds won by nine wickets at home to Ulgham 2nds. The visitors were 98-8 with Trevor Elliott 4-21, and they were 100-1 in replywith Stephen Henderson on 44 not out.
