Penultimate ball loss for Ashington
Ashington cricket slipped down the table to fifth place after Crook won an exciting tussle at Langwell Crescent from the penultimate ball of the game.
In a bid for extra bonus points, skipper Sean McCafferty declared the home innings on 203-6 after 51 overs but the visitors made a good start and replied with openers Andrew Pratt and Steven Chapman forging a stand of 99 in 21 overs.
The Durham side required ten off the last over and after Andrew Burgess had thumped the first delivery for six, Jamie Willis scored the winning run from the fifth ball to seal a three wickets success.
The afternoon session had centred around an opening stand of 132 between Jack Jessop (47) and Steel (74).
