Airey double as North End Trap knock Stobswood out

IN the final first round game of the George Cave Cup in the Morpeth Sunday League, division two side North End Trap produced a shock as they knocked out division one opponents Stobswood 2-0 thanks to a double from Phil Airey.

Also in the George Cave Cup, Bedlington Barrington Arms progressed to the semi-finals after defeating Morpeth Chantry at home 7-0.

On target for ‘The Monkey’ was in-form striker Dylan Williamson who scored four and the victory was wrapped up with solitary strikes from Shaun Cowell, Chris Hay and Josh Laverick.

There was only one first division game played this week due to the cups taking priority and Amble Tavern’s scheduled home game against the Wharton Arms having to be shelved as the Tavern were in semi-final action in the county cup.

In a tight contest, Amble Dock Hotel edged out Village Inn Longframlington 2-1, and in doing so climbed up one place in the league.

In division two, Northumberland HMP racked up an unbelievable scoreline as they thrashed Felton 16-1 which cemented their mid-table position.

Alnmouth Argyle remain third as they overcame Blackthorn Rovers 2-1 thanks to strikes from Chris Chisholm and Ross Mackenley, the Blackthorn response was scored by Richard Stobbard.

Finally in division two, Shakespeare Tavern recorded a 4-0 victory over East Chevington with goals from Alan Rowlands, Dylan McClean and a brace from Scott Hume.
