In the Morpeth Sunday League George Cave Cup final, Amble Tavern walked away with the trophy after a narrowing 1-0 win over Bedlington Social Club.
The first half was a cagey affair with neither side dominating or creating much in the way of chances.
The best opening fell to Bedlington right on half-time with the ball breaking to Andrew Carr in the box following a corner, but his effort was skied over the bar.
Tavern had the better of things in the second half but were consistently denied by some brilliant saves from Bedlington goalkeeper Liam Douglas, who was awarded the man of the match award for his efforts.
But Bedlington’s stubborn resistance was finally broken five minutes from the end.
A diagonal cross-field ball evaded Bedlington full back Michael Carr and found its way to Amble substitute Liam Brooks, who then struck the ball firmly on the half volley with the ball finding the bottom left hand corner of the goal, handing the victory and the trophy to Amble Tavern.
In the only other game of the day, Ashington RAOB defeated Morpeth Shambles 1-0 with a goal from Lee Scott to seal the division one title.
