Ashington Woodhorn Lane Ladies 3
Newcastle East End Ladies 6
Ashington crashed to defeat and ended any chance they had to win Northumberland Women’s League as a depleted side lost out in a entertaining top of the table clash at the Hirst Welfare on Sunday.
The visitors started well and Ashington keeper Jade Gibbs pulled off two great saves from Park and Scott.
Kavanagh went close for Ashington before Park shot East End into the lead after 25 minutes then they went further ahead through Donnelly on 35 minutes.
With only minutes remaining to half-time, Lauren Kavanagh’s thunderous free kick pulled one back for the home side.
East End went 3-1 ahead with an own goal as Sarah Grahamslaw diverted the ball past Gibbs but Ashington got back into the game from another stunning 35-yard free kick from Kavanagh and minutes later Laura Fairley slammed home from the penalty spot after Fenwick had been brought down to level the scores with 15 minutes left.
Ashington were then reduced to 10 players as Emma Ginger was forced off through injury and as no substitutes were available that allowed the visitors space and they added three goals in the final 10 minutes as they extended their lead at the top of the table.
