Ashington FC manager Steve Harmison was a dejected figure in the wake of his side’s 2-1 defeat at the hands of Thackley in their Emirates FA Cup tie on Saturday.
At the interval, the boss thought his outfit were on course to step on the accelerator – only things failed to turn out the way he had anticipated.
“I thought we were doing everything we needed to do but were maybe just forcing the issue,” he said.
“After what we had done in the first 45 minutes, we should not have been in a position to lose this game, but we didn’t show any urgency until we were 2-0 down.
“Fair play to Thackley, we gave them a chance, they scored and when we were feeling sorry for ourselves they added a second.
“Today for 45 minutes in the FA Cup, we set the game up as a home team to drive on.
“We told the lads to be patient but we just didn’t perform in the second half.”
