South Wales born Robertson, who moved to the Wansbeck area six months ago, has agreed to assist when availability allows in the closing eight weeks of this campaign before taking over the role on a permanent basis from next season.

The 44-year-old said: “I have got a couple of months left before I finish my physiotherapy degree at Northumbria University, and as I have got a lot of commitments at the moment, I aim to help out for midweek matches for the rest of the season along with Alan Brown.

“Once I qualify in May then I can become a lot more involved from next term.

“My wife Andrea, who hails from Ashington, moved away from the area about 11 years ago, but we came back to Wansbeck in October of last year.

“Dave Henderson – Ashington’s general manager – who lives opposite us, asked if I would be interested as the club were looking for someone as physiotherapist and I’m delighted to join.”
