The first league derby of the season between North Shields and Ashington, which was scheduled to take place at the Daren Persson Stadium on Wednesday, has been put on ice until later in the campaign.
But the two sides could meet each other in the FA Cup on Saturday week.
At the same time as the Colliers secured a 2-1 success over Albion Sports in their FA Cup preliminary round match on Sunday, the Robins, currently top of the Ebac Northern League’s first division, pulled off an eye-catching 1-1 draw against Scarborough Athletic in Bridlington with their replay now taking precedence over the derby.
A Marc Walton double saw Ashington roar through against the Lions in Bradford – a result which guaranteed the Woodhorn Lane based club £1,925 in prize money to go alongside the £1,500 they pocketed following their replay win over Holker Old Boys in the previous round.
For the first qualifying round encounter on Saturday, September 13, Ashington will host North Shields or Scarborough when £3,000 will be on offer for the winners.
