Dylan Armstrong scored on his Ashington debut on Saturday and said the goal was a perfect belated birthday present.
The teenager, who ironically netted in his first appearance for Ashington Colliers the previous week, turned 18 during the week and was chuffed as his new team-mates handed out a six-goal thrashing to strugglers Celtic Nation at Woodhorn Lane.
Armstrong said: “I was happy with our win but it was a bonus to score, which was a belated birthday present.
“Steve [Harmison] has been great and the rest of the players have been really supportive.
“After playing for the reserves last weekend, I really enjoyed training on Thursday, and it was a great win for us today.
“We did the job first half and killed the game.
“Second half was all about keeping a clean sheet and every goal we got was a bonus.”
Armstrong’s strike came ten minutes from time, and he added: “It was a good team goal, not an individual one because we built up through the attacking third.
“Kyle Oliver put a great ball across, my back flick past the keeper was instinctive and I was happy that it went in.”
