Ashington FC skipper Andrew Johnson has thrown down the gauntlet to his team-mates after the draws for the early rounds in the FA competitions were held at the end of last week.

In the FA Cup, Ashington will host Albion Sports at Woodhorn Lane on August 15 with the prize for the victors being a home tie against Durham City or Thackley in the next round.

In the FA Vase, the Colliers will be on their travels in the second qualifying round against Easington who have just rejoined the second division of the Ebac Northern League.

Johnson said: “I’m pleased with the tie against Albion Sports. We played them away last year so we know what they are about.

“In the Vase, even though we have been draw away to Easington, I’m quite happy. It is a local game and the pitch is good down there.

“The FA competitions always give you a buzz whether it be for players, management staff or supporters and we’ll look forward to them.

“I know there has been a change in some of the personnel at the club since Steve Harmison, Ian Skinner and Lee Anderson took over the reins in February but I’ll be giving the lads a sharp reminder that we don’t have a repeat of last season where we went out of the Vase at the first hurdle against Newcastle Benfield.”
